Dear Friends and Supporters,
After nearly a century, Congress is finally on the brink of passing major national health care reform legislation. The House has just stepped forward, and now its on to the Senate, which starts its debate this week. Its been a years-long, collective endeavor among many groups and unions here in New York and nationwide to get to this point. We are very proud to have helped lead the effort here in New York through our work with Health Care for America Now, Health Care for All New York, Physicians for a National Health Program, and the Universal Health Care Action Network, among other groups and campaigns.
Please join us on Thursday evening, December 10th at our 2009 Annual Gala, to celebrate this historic moment and achievement. We'll be reflecting on all our hard work together over the years, and committing ourselves to "finish the job" in the few weeks ahead.
To commemorate this special year of progress, we will be recognizing the following groups and individuals for their leadership for health care justice:
- For political leadership -- Senator Charles Schumer
- For trade union leadership -- Ed Ott, former Executive Director of the New York City Central Labor Council
- For community leadership -- Make the Road New York, and NYC for Change
